General English

General English is the most widely available type of English course and is the ideal choice for anyone who wants to improve their overall knowledge of the language. Lessons focus on the main language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, together with grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The aim is to help you use English more confidently in everyday situations, while improving both your comprehension and your ability to express yourself. Courses are normally available for different language levels, from beginners to advanced students. Before the course begins, you will take a placement test so that the school can place you in a class with students whose language skills are similar to yours. English inMalta

English inMalta is the programme offered by inMalta for those who want to follow a General English programme at selected schools. The course includes 20 lessons per week, corresponding to approximately 15 hours of classroom tuition, and focuses on the four main language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Lessons take place in international classes, and when selecting the school we also consider the mix of nationalities, because sharing a classroom with students from other countries gives you a real reason to use English from your very first day. English inMalta is particularly suitable for those who want to dedicate part of the day to studying while still having enough time to experience Malta and continue using the language outside school. You can book from 1 to 52 weeks.

Intensive English

If you want to dedicate more time to studying, you can choose an Intensive English course. The idea is simple: more lessons mean more daily exposure to the language. An intensive programme can be particularly suitable when your stay in Malta is relatively short, when you want to focus more of your experience on learning, or when you have an important language goal to achieve. Depending on the school, the additional lessons may focus on communication, grammar, conversation or other language skills. It does not necessarily mean taking a more difficult course: it mainly means dedicating more hours each week to English. The course includes 30 lessons per week. You can book from 1 to 52 weeks.

Deep English inMalta

Deep English inMalta is the intensive programme offered by inMalta. It includes 30 lessons per week, for a total of approximately 22.5 hours of tuition. Compared with the standard programme, you therefore spend more time in the classroom and have greater exposure to English throughout the week. It is designed for those who want to make their study stay more intensive and dedicate a significant part of the day to learning. The choice between English inMalta and Deep English inMalta depends mainly on how much time you have available and the pace you want to give your experience. You can book from 1 to 52 weeks.

Individual English Courses

Not everyone learns in the same way and, above all, not everyone has the same goals. Individual lessons allow you to build a much more personalised programme than a standard group course. Your teacher can focus on your difficulties, the vocabulary you need, conversation, pronunciation or specific academic and professional requirements. One-to-one lessons can be taken as your main programme or, at some schools, added to a group course. They are particularly useful when you have limited time, a very specific goal or need to work intensively on particular skills. Individual lessons can be booked separately.

Exclusive English inMalta

Exclusive English inMalta is inMalta’s personalised programme for those who want to focus their learning on their individual goals. The programme can focus on specific language skills, professional requirements or the student’s particular needs. Compared with a standard group course, greater attention is dedicated to the individual participant, allowing for a more flexible learning programme. It can be the right choice for professionals, university students, young people entering the world of work or anyone who wants to invest in their English with a programme built around their own needs. Business English

When you need English for work, knowing grammar is not enough. You need to learn how to use the language in professional situations. Business English courses develop the language and communication skills required in the workplace: taking part in a meeting, writing professional emails, giving a presentation, negotiating, speaking with international clients and colleagues, handling a telephone call or explaining a project. The content and level of specialisation can vary considerably from one school to another. Some programmes are designed for those who want to acquire a general knowledge of professional English, while others can be built around managerial roles or specific business functions. English for Work

English for Work focuses even more directly on using English in the workplace. It can be suitable for those looking for a job abroad, already working in an international environment or preparing for a career in which English will be used every day. Depending on the programme, topics may include job interviews, CVs, presentations, telephone conversations, communication with clients, meetings and real professional situations. English for Specific Purposes

For some professions, even more specialised courses are available, generally known as English for Specific Purposes, or ESP. In this case, English is studied through the language and situations typically encountered within a specific professional sector. In Malta, depending on the school and the time of year, courses may include English for Tourism, Hospitality, Sales and Marketing, Customer Care, Front Office and Reception, IT, Journalism, Engineering, Aviation, Medicine, Nursing, Healthcare, Law, Construction, iGaming and other sectors. Programmes may also be available for very specific professional roles, from hotel and catering staff to reservations teams and tourism professionals. These programmes are particularly interesting if you already have a basic knowledge of English and want to learn the vocabulary, expressions and communication styles actually used in your profession. They are available on request and are generally organised as individual courses or for small groups booking the same course at the same time, such as employees from the same company, colleagues from the same university faculty or simply students who share the same interest. Academic English

Academic English is mainly designed for those who need to use English in a university or academic environment. Studying in English requires different skills from those needed for an everyday conversation. You need to understand lectures and complex texts, take notes, write assignments, structure arguments, give presentations and use an appropriate language register. An Academic English course can therefore be useful before starting a university programme taught in English or when preparing for an international academic experience. IELTS Preparation Courses

IELTS is one of the most widely used English language qualifications internationally for academic and professional purposes. An IELTS Preparation course is not simply a General English course: it specifically prepares you for the structure of the exam and the skills that will be assessed. The course focuses on listening, reading, writing and speaking, but also includes exam strategies, time management, practice exercises and mock tests. If you need to achieve a specific score for university admission, work or other international goals, it is important to choose your programme according to the result you need to achieve. Cambridge Exam Preparation

In Malta, you can also prepare for Cambridge English exams. Depending on your level and your goal, programmes may be available for different Cambridge qualifications. Preparation courses work both on your knowledge of English and on the specific features of the exam through targeted exercises, familiarisation with the different exam papers and mock tests. TOEFL

Exam preparation options may also include TOEFL. Your choice of exam should not be random: it depends on why you need the qualification, the institution you need to present it to, your starting level and the result you need to achieve. This is why it is important to distinguish between attending an English course and preparing to obtain a qualification. At the end of a standard language course, you may receive a certificate relating to the programme you attended, whereas an international qualification requires you to pass the relevant examination. English for Exams inMalta

English for Exams inMalta brings together programmes dedicated to preparing for international English exams. Depending on the qualification you choose, courses may have different levels of intensity, duration and starting dates and may include General English, specific exam preparation, practice exercises and mock tests. The aim is not only to develop the English you need, but also to understand the structure of the exam, the types of questions, the timing and the most effective strategies for approaching it. Conversation Courses

If speaking is your main difficulty, you can choose programmes that place greater emphasis on speaking skills. Conversation courses or lessons allow you to work on fluency, your ability to respond quickly during a conversation, pronunciation and confidence when expressing yourself. They can be particularly useful for those who have studied English for several years but still feel unsure when they need to use it spontaneously. In many cases, conversation lessons can be added to a course at an English language school as additional lessons with a native English speaker. Individual lessons can be booked separately.

30+ or 50+ Courses

Studying English in Malta is not an experience reserved for younger students. Some schools offer programmes for students over 50, often combining English lessons with cultural and social activities designed for a more mature age group. The aim is to create an environment where it is easier to meet people with similar interests and needs and experience Malta together with other international participants. Programmes and starting dates may vary depending on the school and the season. These are not different types of English courses: they are General English or Intensive English courses attended by more mature participants.

Teacher Training

Malta also offers courses for teachers and education professionals who want to improve their language or teaching skills. Teacher Training programmes may focus on English language teaching methodology, the use of new teaching tools, classroom communication or professional development. Some programmes may also be eligible for Erasmus+ mobility projects, subject to the relevant requirements.

Masterclass inMalta

English can also become the tool through which you learn something new. Masterclass inMalta complements the courses offered by inMalta with sessions and workshops focusing on professional, academic or other specific areas of interest. They are delivered by experts and professionals and use English not only as a subject to be studied, but as the language through which you acquire new knowledge. Which course should you choose?

The number of options may seem complicated, but choosing becomes easier when you start with your goal. If you want to improve your English overall, General English or English inMalta can be your starting point. If you have limited time and want to study for more hours, you can consider Intensive English or Deep English inMalta. If you want a programme built around you, you can choose individual lessons or Exclusive English inMalta. If you use English professionally, Business English, English for Work or an English for Specific Purposes course may be more suitable. If you need English for university, you can consider Academic English. If you need to formally demonstrate your level, you should instead choose a preparation course for IELTS, Cambridge, TOEFL, LanguageCert or the specific qualification you require.
